Where are the soviet rations in the world? The soviet union had a massive military! With countless armored, infantry, and airborne divisions that were constantly training or on standby. If conflict were to break out, would soldiers, airmen, and marines need some sort of rations to accompany them when field kitchens aren't readily available? Granted the Soviet Union collapsed in December of 1991 and many artifacts and militaria was either stored away and/or sold off to private collectors and mueseums, but why is there a lack of vintage rations? Shouldn't there be leftovers from the war in Afghanistan? Not to mention the large amounts of military aid sent to various countries around the world. We've seen some vintage Yugoslav rations from 1990 here and plenty of cold war era rations from various NATO states (especially the USA). I find it odd to witness a lack of rations from a world superpower that prided itself in it's military and industry.

Have any of you guys seen any Soviet and Warsaw pact rations?

It did prided itsef but you obviously don't know much about life in USSR. Also their war in Afghanistan was badly started, badly conducted and ended in defeat, I guess they lacked food more then they had one. People where hungry, when it all crashed some people turned to criminal making insane profit, ex Soviet soldiers and officers started selling weapons and equipment they sold even navy trained dolphins. Imagine a guy who was in charge for some army depo full of stuff and suddenly he has no chain of command, no country, no paycheck no nothing beside who knows what they had in their storage that just dissapeared lol... I remember one Russian woman that lived with us with her two children in early 90's, most common word used to describe life in their country was hunger. Years later I had opportunity to listen to Ukrainian folk saying how was life back then. Even now it's not nearly like west EU, only maybe Poland rise from Warshaw pact countries (and Baltic I guess).

Same goes for every country that was under their claw. I don't think it's a big shock that soviet rations are nowhere to be found or they are very very rare. Food was precious, that's the simplest answer to why.

You are right about the later years in the 80s and 90s. I have spoke with a woman from the Soviet Union/Russia and she never mentioned much about food shortages.
As mentioned in the links above, the current rations and they issued in the Afghan war often went bad and spoiled and malnutrition and illnesses were big issues as was sources of fresh water. Standard military doctrine was pushed aside due to the climate of Afghanistan. New rations and canned food were created for troops and the logistical means of transporting were change to fit the geography of Afghanistan. After the collapse, I believe I believe the Russian military developed the new and improved "IRP-(p?)" for the (first) conflict in Chechnya, which was the predecessor of the current IRP.

And here's a link to a small glimpse of the daily life on a Typhoon class submarine. I don't know how much of the "few dollars a month" quote is actually true but it was filmed in the early 90s. Also, notice the television screen near the end of the video where the sailors are dining. They're showing an American cartoon-Tom and Jerry!

wow, that's interesting. Belarus does translate to "white Russia" if I am not mistaken. Nice find.

And I have seen the cans of beef with the cow pictured for sale before. Tushenka I believe it is called.

Of course there can be a way to find some, but in my opinion it's hard just because the problems Soviet Union and Warshaw pact had during the years. Search for rationing in USSR, or food lines. In surroundings like that cans of food would be priority not just for soldiers to get few back home to his family but for other things like trading etc. After the fall it was allround anarchy.

Lol! I got my IRP from grey shop! They also have those Spetznatz mountain packs if you guys are intrested in them. They were out of stock when I made my IRP purchase. And as for the old can, I saw it on ebay.
