Long time i had nothing to write, because i reduced collecting rations.
But every year i check my storage and to this i found an sealed EPA with a oily spot
It also smelled terrible to old fat.

I decided to open it and made some photos (sorry, had only my mobile cam):







Inside i found a broken can with Mortadella:




I opened it outside with a tupper savety can opener:



still Looks like meat, smell is not worse as outside, but very tinny

i made no dog test

I would think that depending on the ingredients in the chocolate, it may possibly still be edible. Unless I'm mistaken it is usually the oil or milk in it that will go bad, and the darkest chocolate seems to have the longest shelf life. However if other cans have split or leaked and have contaminated it, all bets are off. Rudi, do you happen to know what the ingredients were in the chocolate bar? Also housil, the ration was only older than some of us!

I (finally) am retiring in 2 weeks!

I did the math; I was a year old in '65. Also I realized after I posted my other comment that any kind of chocolate would not be likely to survive for 50 years unless the storage conditions were very tightly controlled. Freeze-dried stuff usually does better.
