Unknown Polish ration

Maybe someone can help me with this.
I got two Polish rations. They are huge and heavy. Is there a 24 hrs ration?

IF these are the type S ration, they are a single serving ration, with cans.

Or not, my Polish is nonexistent...


The Type S is packed in the same plastic bag as the type W, but contains less food and also lacks the means to heat ration items. The Type S contains: two 100-g cans of meat (one of processed luncheon meat and one of meat pate) and 90 g fortified hard bread. Each ration pack also contains: instant tea; instant coffee; sugar, a piece of Vitamin C hard candy; a stick of chewing gum; a folder of safety matches; paper napkin; toilet paper; and a plastic bag. Each bag also has two plastic caps to cover the opened cans of meat or meat spread. There are 6 menus:

S1 = pork luncheon meat, chicken pate
S3 = pork luncheon meat, meat pate w/herbs
S5 = country-style pate, ham & chicken loaf, tube of condensed milk
S6 = chicken loaf, pork meat spread
S8 = canned fatty chicken, chicken pate
S9 = ham & chicken loaf, pork meat spread, tube of condensed milk

No, they aren´t. I have type S & W rations.

They are much bigger than their type S and type W rations

Hi,
maybe i can clarify this a little - SRG stands for Dry Ration, Hot', after hyphen we have menu number. Those are relatively new rations, I think 2012-2013, meant for consumption through 24h (SRG-3 has 3711 kcal), with Esbit stove (hence 'Hot' moniker). All civilian testers claim that they are superior to MREs in flavor and quality - During the biding process, military asked for 'no preservatives' in entrees - spam, bigos, beans with tomato sauce etc. Those cans are a little messy, too - no eating on the go. Those entrees have indeed relatively unappetizing names and looks, half of them looks/is like a simple spam, but if they are no worse that what I find in my local shop under those names, they may be better than MREs in our climate, given the local tastes, and way better than Ukrainian ones, that's for sure) SRG can be relatively easy bought on local eBay clone - allegro.pl - for 12$ each ( http://allegro.pl/srg-5-indywidualna-po ... 88019.html).

Polish Army has also SRS (Ration for Special Forces, 500g, 1100 kcal, 3 per day, MRE heater included, main course in the semi-flexible aluminium cans, claimed to be better than MRE ones, review in Polish: http://www.equipped.pl/srs-sucha-racja-specjalna/) and SR which are similar to SRS (also flexible cans with MRE heater, 500g, 3 a day, I honestly don't have idea what's the difference between those two, but there must be some). There is also new local version of UGR-E, one pack with flameless heater for 20 soldiers, although I doubt that you can buy it for civilian use. Type 'S' you mentioned is simply an older type, SR is probably meant to replace it.

This is not a competition which are the better rations
As we both life in the same climate area, I can´t see why they should be better than a MRE? And btw, the shelf life of MREs is not achieved via preservatives, but by absorbing the oxygen with absorbers. If they are superior in taste, depends to what you are used and your prefernces. If they are in quality? I don´t know. They don´t have an ingredient list printed on like on MREs BTW, current I´m eating 2003 MREs, 11 years old - how would a 11 years old SRG would taste?

@housil: you are right, this is not a competition , and I think that MREs look much better and are more fun overall. What I attempted was merely passing the opinion of two reviewers, who claimed that those entrees taste quite good - one even said that he preferred them over MREs. Is it true? I have no idea. That's why I said 'claimed to be'. Although now that I checked, it seems that the second one got his rations directly from manufacturer, so his motives may be questioned... Let's call it a day and forget about it. As far as longevity goes - you are right, those can only last 2-3 years (that's my educated guess, maybe you can find the numbers). Also, I found a nicer review, by the same guy: . There are quite a few of those reviews made recently, which also hints at 2-3 year date - if they were introduced in 2011, then the 1st batch is sold off to hobbyist like now. And as far as desserts go, I heard that military-type sweetened condensed milk, in 150 g tubes, which is different from those sold to civilians (thicker), was extremely popular among survivalists for many years. It was, because production ceased, and those newer rations have none.
