Canadian IMP-Salmon

Post by Enchilada » Wed May 03, 2006 4:43 am

I just got a "02" salmon filet ration and on the outside packet there is a green warning sticker telling me "do not eat the liquid honey" that is in the ration pack.
Can anyone tell me whats wrong with the honey?

After hitting up google it seems DND (IMP manufacturer???) recieved reports of troops getting ill after eating the Honey...instead of recalling they added the little green sticker.

I suspect that it's come kind of failure in the foil envelope: highly sugared foods are very acidic and aggressive and will eat away poorly applied polymer coating on the inside of food cans and sachets.

That's almost funny...imagine getting an IMP or MRE with a sticker on the outside that says "do not eat the IMP" or "do not eat the MRE". :-)

If I recall correctly, there was some of the sachets that had Botulism in the honey, which is a threat in all honey as it is not pastuerized (It's raw )

:? I ate a "99" beef tortellini that had a couple of honey packets in it.
They were crystalised, so I put them in some hot water till they warmed up and put it in the peaches fruit pack. I couldn't figure out why they put honey in the IMP's anyway. glad I didn't get sick
There wasn't a sticker on mine, and I'm still here

they probably put honey in them becuase "normally" honey has a shelf life of "almost" foreever,

they occasioanlly dig up pots of honey in (i think it was egypt i heard?) that is still ediable despite being buried centuires ago

Personally, I love the honey in the IMPs. It would nice if they'd include that in the MREs - then you could have peanut butter, honey, jam, and cheese spread (not all at once!). :-)

I thought the honey was very good. I just didn't know if it was meant to put in coffee or something else. Do the canadians eat it like candy ?
just wondering if it's a common item they pack in the IPM's.

I think it's a pretty common item to pack in IMPs. The last IMP I ate had this nice dinner-roll type of bread in it so I cut that in half and poured the honey on the bread. Good eating.
