The best flavored/plain coffee?

I'm curious what people here think is the best flavored or plain coffee in all of the rations represented in forums, international and U.S., and as I may have been in error about the scho-ko-kola being able to mix with coffee or boiling water as a drink, can it be? With MREs and MCIs we were always able to mix cocoa and coffee packets for mocha. Thanks for any feedback.

My absolutly No1 is the EPa tea. It´s a very strong one.
The MRE Taster Joice I opend are mostly rotten and molded (2003) but I really love the MRE cocoa since I got it for the first time in 1982 out of a MCI can.

Sorry, no fav coffee... :|

Italian Cappuccino is crazy, even has foam, check my menu B review.

Other than that the finer the grind the better.

The US tasters choice packs are good, and also pack a punch if you put under your tongue instead of brewing them

IMHO, the espresso packets out of the Italian rations are the best, followed by the US MRE instant coffee (PLAIN, not flavored!). The Brits by far have the best tea - real tea bags, not that instant stuff.

I do like the grapefruit crystals out of the German EPA, however.

I've never tried to melt Scho-ka-kola in hot coffee, but I doubt it would work very well. It would likely melt and settle as a greasy slick on the top of the brew.

My favorite coffee was the very finely powdered type that used to come in the MCIs. It was much better than the crystal type they pack in the MRES now. Never seemed to spoil from moisture, either, like you'll sometimes find in older MREs with the current coffee.

Thanks for replies everyone! I agree with Richard w. on the MCI coffee, but when we still had the MCIs, my tracked ambulance crew-mates and I would add just enough cocoa powder to take the "edge" off and then add a pinch of dry creamer and this combo would keep us awake for a couple days.

I like the old coffee Type I from older US rations. It packed a punch and had a good taste not like the new Folger crystals. yukkkkkk!!!

The old "Coffee, Instant, Type I, with Ascorbic Acid" was also perfectly sized for a canteen cup. The new sticks of Folger's crystals just aren't enough, so you have to use less water or get a weak brew.

I've tried the newer freeze dried coffee: DIARIO and it is much better than the Taster's Choice but it comes in the foil lined pouches not the newer stick forms. It's very smooth and has a full body taste to it.

What is curious that that new coffee comes from Mexico via a Texas company and they treat mexicans like crap, but they do love their coffee....
