My brother from China just got in last night and we finally swapped xmas presents today. Needless to say I was more than happy to find out he scored me a half dozen Chinese rations plus some other ration components that need some translation, but appear to be similar to the ration bar 24hr kit. There are two of each, so I'm going to open, document and try each of them. There are also two of each sort of emergency ration, so I'll be doing documenting one of each of those. There is only one unique component so I do plan on opening it up, but as I said this is just a tease until next Monday or Tuesday.

No, I'm not interested in trading or selling any of these.

I always wonder about the quality of these Chinese rations, I get worried hearing about the poisoned milk and the "fake" cooking oil scandals what else could they throw in there!

Okay, I've got up a bunch more pictures at http://s1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... 20Rations/

I'll be doing some more taste tests soon, I haven't had a ration but I've tried a couple of the bars. They're somewhere between a ritz cracker and a saltine mostly, with a bit of a sweet taste. The darker one tasted sweeter but was the exact same consistency. The chocolate reminded me of RCIR chocolate bars, sorta crunchy but tasty.

These rations are actually for the Navy, so there are other army rats out there etc, I assume. I'm having trouble with copypasta for the translator, so I'll just list the main dishes for now.

Meal A, mixed fried rice 280g self-heating from the hot pepper sauce 10g sausage fried rice 280g
Meal B, since the heat from the hot beans 280g beef fried rice fried rice with pickled vegetables 280g diced chili sauce 10g
Meal C, since the compression heat Pickled pork chow mein 280g90 chili sauce 10g 125g dry food

I don't know what the 125g dry food is in the menu C, I suspect it's the same thing that's in all of the cubes, the dry ritz like cracker stuff. The heaters are double sided and the entrees come in the middle of them. There is a little bag to fill with water to the line then add to the heater. It comes with the cheapest fork I've seen, I'd hate to have to use those all the time. I'll do an entree taste test tonight for sure with pics to come.

One of the rations came with the little pouches of fish and meat and ?? are apparently things that typically go over rice. I'll try to figure out which one that is and get it translated next as I'm curious.
