In my previous post I indicated that I have a large military family. In my very first post, I asked about finding an Italian Razione Viveri while in Italy this summer. The short answer was good luck. I am new to collecting and have learned that the elusive Italian is very difficult to find!!!! Some hardcore collectors have only seen a few. Well, for my 40th birthday this month, my friend was able to obtain me one in Afghanistan. He does a different sort of military work. I will say only that while he is active duty, I dont think he has a uniform with him in Afghanistan but wears a VERY long beard. He found me an Italian, Modulo C, manufactured 2009. It was a sacrifice for him to do as he dislikes the Italian soldiers after they mistakenly shot at him. Since then they have exchanged less than pleasant finger gestures. Anyway, here is a pic, with more to follow.

Some more pics. Two comparison shots as to their size versus the MRE. It is big and HEAVY (though it is a 24 hour ration). Much heavier than the RCIR or Multiclimate.

Congrats you have found the "Holy Grail"

The Italian rations I have also came from Afghanistan.
