New Peruvian Combat Ration

Following problems with their combat feeding for troops fighting Communist Sendero Luminoso guerillas in the VRAE, the Peruvian Military directed that a suitable combat ration be developed. The ration had to cost no more than 30 Peruvian sols per ration, be light in weight, suitable for either the jungle or high mountain environment in which the fighting is taking place, and use Peruvian components.
Axis de Peru won the final contract and developed a ration known as the "Racion de Campana" (Peruvian Army) or Racion de Combate de 24 Horas (Peruvian Navy)
It is a 24-hour daily ration, packaged in a sealed black polyethylene bag measuring 250 mm x 170 mm and weighing no less than 1500 g. The bag contains the minimum daily food requirements for 1 soldier for 1 day, with a caloric range of 3000 - 3500 kCal per ration. Specifications call for three meals, which (other than the beverage items) must be ready to eat with no further preparation. Where possible, the foods must be packed in retort pouches rather than cans. Shelf life must be a minimum of 1 year and food items must cater to Peruvian tastes. There are a total of 5 different menus. This ration was finalized and accepted for military use in September 2009.
