Just a quick question for the folks here who are more familiar with british rations than I; what exactly is treacle pudding, and is it an actual pudding or a cake? I talked to some british soldiers when I was on active duty and it seems that the only thing more loathed than the treacle pudding was the canned processed cheese!

its a heavy bread like pudding in sweeeet syrup.

in fact real good when heathed.

Thanks for reply norge Actually I do recall a british medic telling me that "we have a different way of saying things here than you lot across the pond, we say biscuit whereas you say cookie, and often we say pudding whereas you lot say cake." He also went on to say that Treacle Pudding should be out-lawed by the Geneva Convention!

the treacle pudding is one of my favs when i gett hold off british boil in bag rations.

Actually I cannot offer an opinion of the treacle pudding as I have not yet eaten it. The only thing I have ever eaten from a british rationpack was a several years-old Kendal Mint Cake, which was delicious. I do recall also asking the british medic why there were so many drink mixes and snacks in the british rations and he told me "well you know the saying mate, 'when in doubt, brew up!'"

I am not a fan of this item, way too tough and sugary (I mean like adult-onset diabetes type sugary), better hot than cold tho if you insist on trying to eat it.

I seldom eat the puddings (or brew kit or soup) anyway, but at least the other puddings are edible if you want them. I save the other puddings for civvy hiking and such and they get used - the only thing that I do with treacle pudding is to put it in a carrier bag, for consumption during nuclear fallout/zombie invasion/end of the world only.

Thanks for the reply. It does not look very appetizing, certainly not as good as, say, the chocolate pudding in chocolate sauce! I do agree with u on the adult onset diabetes look to it, as i have type 2 diabetes myself, which ended my military career, and very few rations are suitable for me now. I wish i could find the ration talk page where that guy in the UK was eating the 24 hour ration over the course of the day, very funny and good descriptions of stuff.
