I was browsing the excellent
rationworld site when I came upon these remarkable stills from a Chinese TV programme that seemed to be about the latest PRC rations.

- Anti - radiation food for missile forces

- anti - anoxia ration
Anti- radiation food for missile forces!!?
Has anybody else seen or heard of this?

The only thing that I can imagine them having would be potassium iodide tablets because that is pretty much the only thing that will protect a soldier from absorbing it thru the thyroid. During the cold war, the soviet union had "anti-radiation" pills that would be issued to troops in case of war, but they were believed to be placebos or at best potassium iodide. My unit was issued potassium iodide pills during desert shield and desert storm, but to my knowledge there is no "magic food" that will protect from radiation, and once a person becomes ill from radiation poisoning there is very little that can be done.

Hi,
an Ukrainian friend of mine was in the Soviet army during Tchernobyl incident. He was sent to the plant protected only by a white lab coat, a surgeon's cap and mask and those magic pills. He had to evacuate the radioactive water using a mop and a bucket!
Obviously the pills were efficient as he's still OK today (thanks God) and he's got some beautiful children.

Maybe it will choke you enough so you can't feel any lack of oxygen......

it's gotta be mixed with sodium iodine, they still issue bottles of iodine pills to people who live near reactors just in case, at least in US.

I searched from Chinese websites.
It is considered to be the food for activity in a high mountain range.

It seems that a ginseng has the effect in research in China.

I thought it would be submarine emergency rations, if the oxygen level has become low whilst waiting for rescue and escape is undesirable at that depth. Or if you're a diesel electric boat but can't snorkel due to everyone looking for you on the surface. Perhaps not though.
Mountain rations to counter lack of oxygen? Will ginseng really, scientifically-provenly, do that?
As for anti-radiation rations, if I was manning ICBMs I'd like to think that the weapon isn't irradiating me! Although I know some tanks use Depleted Uranium in their armour, some Armour-piercing rounds use DU also, and some earlier Soviet submarines put to sea with a certain radiation danger (not only accidents, as a matter of course) and it was considered an acceptable risk, given the need to have boats at sea. Apparently they even opened specific hospitals for the crewmen of these who got sick!
Any truth to the hearsay that red wine and fresh fruit reduces radiation absorption? Or is it just a myth?

By
another thread, I did some writing.
And I discovered the description about the anti-radiation supplement of the U.S. Forces in the information relevant to the accident of Fukushima.
http://www.forestwalking.com/horsha.html
By the old data of the U.S. Forces, it says that the food containing chlorophyll content with high anti-oxidization ability reduces the influences of radiation 50%.
Wheat verdure, barley verdure, AFA Blue Green Algae, chlorella, a spirulina, and green leaves are taken in as a supplement.
It is unknown how old this information is.
Do you know about anti-radiation equipment of the present U.S. Forces?
