German EPA chocolate

As I'm not very familiar with german bundeswehr rations, I'm curious if the chocolate bar that is included is a sports/energy type bar or is it a dark chocolate? Many nutritionists argue the benefits of very dark chocolate, pro and con, and I'm just curious what those in charge of developing the EPA menus intended; the morale boost that chocolate seems to provide, a high carb energy source, or both? Am I correct in referring to the EPAs as bundeswehr rations?

thats right - the chocolate in the EPA is dark (around 60 %).
EPA are genuine bundeswehr rartions and specially made for the bundeswehr. some items in it look like they are "civil" but the mixture, production date /best by date and other points are different.

The chocolate in the EPa is made as a "snack" and to keep moral high(er).
We don´t have any sports/energy bars in EPa´s. The chocolate bar is made from dark chocolate to prevent it from melting in hot enviroment like regular milk chocolate.
A nice side effect is, that chocolate helps you to cure diarrhrea or prevent it

Thanks very much for reply sir, dark chocolate seems to be a popular item, and German chocolate appears to have a very good reputation for quality (speaking from experience here!)

Thanks for reply housil, i figured the chocolate was a morale boost as it seems to be in probly every other nation's rations which contain it. As for the diarrhea treatment aspects, I found a very similar effect by consuming MRE peanut butter and crackers during a bout of intestinal bug I contracted during desert storm----it was all i could keep down. As I'm sure u are aware, our MREs require copious amounts of water be consumed to avoid the opposite effect

I assume EPAs have similar issues as they appear to be highly concentrated, yes? BTW i know this is not forum topic but how does German emergency medical technician system differ from American? I'll ask in off-topic section if u prefer.

Nice photo, thanks! One thing I love about this website is the high quality pics you people put here. Unfortunately I am not very skilled at doing pics so most of my posts will not contain them.

If the British army had more taste, they would enclose 1 of these in their 24hr packs.
(The first plain chocolate, I believe, and as good as any from Europe)
The current bar is of 1100 kcals with 40 pc cocoa and weighs about 125.5 grms. length 14 cm by 5cm by 1.5 cm thick.
They could easily be tropicalised
Almost as many calories as an entire MRE. With a rich, only slightly sweet taste. Very satisfying!
A meal in itself!

Instead of those truly disgusting yorkie bars.
