Just that I saw a couple of varieties in Sainsburys today - and thought I'd try them during the next big shopping run...

They look like natural foods in 300g pouches...

I've already logged a question via their enquiries form about whether their pouches can be heated in water or in an FRH...

They're nukable..

From the cooking instructions, it would appear to be retort packaged in a bag without a metal lamination layer. Generally these types of bags can be boiled in water or heated in an FRH safely, in addition to being nuked.

Boil in the bag is good - from the email reply this morning...

On the accompaniment front - some of them seem to suggest rice is needed... has anyone tried doing the boil in a bag thing with Tilda pouches or similar?

Just thinking about if I ever decide to go to Greenbelt or similar... if I can get really good quality stuff in retort pouches- just get a multipack of FRHs and I'm good to go..

If you're referring to the Tilda Steamed Basmati rice pouches, those aren't available in the U.S. but there are a number of other brands both domestically produced and from Asia (India, China/Taiwan, Japan) that sell similarly packaged rice products over here. The packaging is similar to the Sainsbury pouch products in that they use a retort pouch without a metallic lamination layer. The ones that I've found on this side of the pond can indeed be boiled or even heated with an FRH, though to maximize it's selling potential they are marketed for microwave preparation to appeal to the mainstream consumer market.

But sounds good... able to do that if I ever camp again.. cool..

I know. I meant that the Tilda steamed rice products are only available in the UK, Oz, and South Africa.
I should have clarified that my response was based upon experiences with similarly pouched rice products that we have in the U.S.
