Thinking about some of the Christian summer events (Soul Survivor, Greenbelt etc), where I may want to budget effectively, and also TRY to work on my weight..

Has anyone tried the HotPackMeals? Are they a good civvy ration? Visible here - http://www.hotpackmeals.co.uk

I;m quite impressed by the fact the WeightWatchers numbers are pretty good as well...

Veg curry - 3.5 points
Chicken casserole - 10 points (all kinds of crap in this one)
Chicken Dopiaza - 5.5 points
Lancs Hotpot - 4 points
Meatballs and pasta - 7.5 points
Sausages and beans - 9.5 points
Veg rigatoni - 10 points.

Interesting to note that the curries come in a lot lighter than the trad options (in ration terms)...

I think theres a thread on these or at least a mention of them in one. my pay wasn't enough to buy some, I did plan to buy some and do a test. They are on ebay.co.uk
I was thinking the same thing Stef, I'm sure I mentioned that in the thread... I hope I wasn't dreaming it.

EDIT Nope heres the thread, sadly not a lot of info as they don't seem to be that common here, I have not seen any in the major camping/survival stores here just German Travel lunch

Well they are made by Westler foods......the same company that makes a lot of the pouched meals in the UK 24 hour rat packs.......

I don´t know how WW calculates it´s point´s, but Chicken Casserole has 27.3g of fat at 453 ckal. That lots more that the "green" of 3.3g per 100ckal

Chicken Dopiaza Curry 12.3g at 261ckal
Lancashire Hot Pot 6.9g at 225ckal is almost green
Meatballs and Pasta 17.7g at 381 ckal (holy crap)...

Nothing you can eat for a "diet" at all.

But the bags are nice, they also offer a FRH called "action pack", saying "...The British MoD have approved the use by Special Forces of the FRH together with the plastic bubble bag..."

They calculate on *saturated* fat and kcal. And the point values are perfectly OK as main meals when you're on 36 points a day..

Westlers also made the old tinned rations, I believe the infamous 'compo sausage' from the 70 and 80's from what I have heard they were an aquired taste. They still sell them under the name sausages in lard.

Er, yeah. Is that that godawful pork and chicken sausage they roll out? Annoying that they stopped doing their Full English tin.. as that had Comberland sausages in.. and was a little more sausagey, rather than "WTF is this?"...
