Post by Dekard » Sat Jan 24, 2009 11:56 pm

Found this through a google image search - anyone have any feedback on these?

this looks interesting for a group buy maybe - i suspect this co. is based out of singapore, so no
vouching for the quality/safety of meals.

Oh yeah - you can forget about that goldenseason.com place - just by their pictures alone, you can tell they're sketchy.

Don´t buy this!!!!!!!!

This "EPa´s" are just common supermarkt items collected in a card bord box, offerd for €13,90
The entree´s are available at EVERY supermarket over here for ~€ 1.20 :!:

They are made by the same manufacturer as the genuine Bundeswehr EPa entrees, but different in dish AND shelf life!

The seller just took the manufacturers genuine pics:

and fotot shoped the labels a "little bit":

Everybody can use the word "EPa" over here, it´s not a trademark

You always find those faked EPa´s at epay etc...

I saw those prepacked meals at a few supermarkets in Germany in December. If I had any space left in my suitcase I would have bought a few,I filled all the remaining space with Haribo Goldbaren, Kinder Duplo and Milka :D

I wasn't sure about putting them into my handluggage due to those restrictions.

What is the shelflife on those Housil? Just wondering as I'm sure the Cevapcici menu at one store was being kept in the refrigerator, The picture on the front looked exactly like the EPA Meal and the one shown on thier website.

Gaz

Official shelf life must be >2 years. Refrigeratoring is not neccessary, this is a "tin"

The Cevapcici is the only (!) dish that is for the genuine Bundeswehr EPa and for the civilian market available!

Thats genuine Bundeswehr EPa Cevapcici:

Made by Buss (sticker, current version) or Herta (printed, early version)

How many of this entrees do you want? Rudi and me can buy for you as much as you want... We are inside EU and shipping wouldn´t be a problem.
Check manufacturers link to see the "menue". Current price is €1.20 up to €1.50, depends to the supermarket (Aldi, Lidl, Norma, Kaufland...)

housil, how do those civilian entrees have different shelf lives. I mean, it looks like the same food and the same packaging so why would the shelf live be different?

Genuine Bundeswehr EPa entrees containers (what a long "word"...) have an extra "plastic foil" (?) layer inside to increase shelf life (and protect the tin from the foods acid).

If you ever forgot one in a boiling water pot, you can see that after the lid had come off from the heat

You also can´t pull off the lid on the Bundeswehr one´s, the lid need to be cut with a knife (don´t stab throu the bottom of container!). Civilians can easily pulled open like any cup noodles.

Also the dishes, excapt the Civapcici, are different.
Actually the shelf life should be similar, as the Bundeswehr now official recommand a use within 3.5 years, also replace the EPa´s after 2 years of storage.

The earlies squared shaped containers had a shelf life of 20 years (!) but got replaced after 10 years.

Thanks for the explanation! I definitely know what you mean about the lid on the military entrees needing to be cut off. I remember with the first EPa I tried, I juts about lost a finger trying to pull that damn lid off! I finally had to cut it off with a knife and thought I was a being lame...now I know I wasn't.

Son in law was over for weekend - he is at the Bundeswehr for 12 years :D

So I deceided to "invite" the whole family for dinner and opend a "new" 2003 case.
We had No 18 Turkey Breast w/Gravy & Potatoes, No 15 Beef Enchiladas and a 2004 CCC for Mrs. Housil. Also Bundeswehr entree Cevapcici and Italien Noodle dish

not only the packaging can be different. also the main-entrees. for example EPA-light - freeze dried ration entrees. the ingridients are not the same as used in civilian line. its the same with the EPA main entrees. BW EPA entrees have for example "gluten" (flavour enhancer) in many entrees - the civil line has nearly no "gluten" (flavour enhancer) in it.
