Hi,
Actually the German Army survival ration is the best survival stuff you can find !
It is made by Compact AS, a company in Norway. It's compressed food, very sweet, and a package - 210 gr - is enough for 2 days. You can mix it with water or milk to make a pudding. The food is balanced and won't occure any health problem even consumed every day.
The good thing is the storage life : you can keep them 40 years without any problem !
You can find plenty of emergency rations on ebay : they are all surplus from the Bundeswehr.
If you look for emergency food for your family, just buy it !
I've bought 50 pieces for my family, in case of. I've tried it and it tastes very good.

Hi Hearvor - welcome to the forums!
Is this the survival ration you are talking about:
http://www.compact.no/tekstsider.cfm?id=27702
They also make this ration: http://www.compact.no/tekstsider.cfm?id=24553 but it looks like a civilian type.

It's called a jar of Blutwurst and a loaf or 2 or Pumpernickel. Available at any backwoods farmhouse in Baden-Wurtemburg, etc. If your lucky, you can get some milch und kase, and a few bottles of local haystraw brewed beer.
