my new video 1976 French army RCIR

Post by katojapan » Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:46 am

I bought a French army ration made in 1976 at eBay the other day.
I received it a week ago.

I found canned foods, sweets, alcoholic drinks and cigarettes in the RATION box.

Hi Kato,
very nice found, I've never seen since I was 20!
The "Grosjean" cheese and the sweets seem to be a little bit tired.
The apple jam (Pom'fruit) and the Beef in sauce were VERY good (or maybe I was VERY hungry! ).

I think the sugar blocks, the cigarette ans the brandy are the only things that are still safe (well, I mean: if you don't fear lung cancer, cirrhosis and diabetes).
The little red pack "Antesite" is licorice flavoured drink powder.
You should also have some water purification tabs and salt-energy tabs.
Any question, please ask!
Many thanks for sharing.

Hi Stef,
Thank you for comment.

The canned foods were rotten and covered with fungus in the box.
The sweets were melted and rotten.
But chocolate bars were all right.

Hi Kato,
thanks for the new pictures.
The bottle contains *strong* alcohol, not wine ("eau de vie" is something like whisky or schnapps).
It should be good 32 years after, maybe even better!
The “Biobol” pack is instant soup stock, generally very clear (as clear as a miso soup stock).
The instant milk (big white/blue pack with flowers) seems rotten.

The Kemmel chocolate is made in Northern France, near Belgium border. It contains chicory extract if I remember well.
“Argelac” brown pack is just a humidity absorber pack, not edible.

I thought that was a chewing gum or something before opening its red
package, but it turned out that it was something like a Capsules<Kapsel>.

Hi Kato,
this is the cyanid pill for the soldiers who gets captured

(Just kidding: our soldiers run too fast to get captured 8) )

In fact "Antesite" is licorice flavoured drink powder. Open 1 pill and drop the powder into 1L water and you have flavoured water. It hides the bad taste of water purification tabs, that's its main use!

Traditional military recipe: if you have an anise flavored pill, mix it with the brandy from the little bottle an you have some "Pastis"- like aniseed French aperitif
