'Aussie soldiers turn noses up at ration packs'

Pretty much a non-story - slow news weekend perhaps?

"Soldiers are tired of their rations." Ok...what's next from these news geniuses? "The sky is blue" or "Water is wet?"...check back for all the details on the 11 o'clock news! :-)

Complaint's

This kind of remind's me of something I heard from a senator or congressman a couple of year's ago. This guy was complaining that our troops were coming back from Iraq weighing more than they did when they went to Iraq. Only a politician would complain, because; our troop's were being fed well :!: I don't remember who the guy was (probably a democrat), but he should have been force fed hardtack and 40 year old c ration's

Our troop's deserve the best food they can possibly have, and as much of it as they want.

The article says the mashed potato & rice are problem items, which is true. I don't recall anyone ever preparing the rice: time-consuming, messy, totally impractical. I never ate the potato, either, but that was just because it was so disgusting. Both those items should have been replaced years ago, perhaps with bread like in MREs or IMPs.

They're wrong about the main meals, though. In my experience, all of the main meals were perfectly acceptable when consumed cold - 'fully edible', without a doubt, just slightly less appealing.

I don't fancy a field ration which is mostly candy & power bars. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, and having a 'real' meal is important for morale - it gives you something to look forward to. Beef jerky would be pretty damned cool, though.
