Interesting French ration

Post by SirG2020 » Wed Jul 03, 2024 3:05 am

Hello everybody.
I’m looking for any info about this French ration. Please let me know if any of you seen it and/or tried it. It looks to be a bit heavier than any other French rations I’ve seen and has 4k calories!
Thanks for sharing anything you know about it.

I just purchased an Extrem Outdoors T9 ration on Ebay in a similar green pouch. Supposedly has all the mains and components of the #9 RCIR. Which is Pork/Pineapple and Cassoulet.

Those ones are great. You’re correct, they are exactly like the RCIRs just packed in green, waterproof bag.

This one is a bit different I believe. It has more items (4,000 kcal) and also no metal cans as it says “soft pack” combat ration on it.

When I open it, I will post some photos on here for everyone, just in case it is different and unique

Some guy in Washington State has a few on EBAY. Did the French change over their box RCIR to a bag, like the Brit's did? :?:
After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

The guy in WA was the vendor I got the T9. There are a couple YT reviews on the bags saying they are a civilian version of the RCIR. Kind of makes sense since all the food items are essentially commercially available in stores.

Hi

We have been seeing green bagged rations with handles for about a year now, they have all the same components as the original boxed RCIR but in a bag. We purchased some to start with but found quite a few damaged items due to the lack of protection the original box gave. On recent contact with our supplier in France, They mentioned that the factory that produces the RCIR is currently being refitted to produce a " new type of ration with a soft shell " Some words may be lost in translation but sounds like a bagged ration will become common. I can not comment on the " soft pack " part on the pictured, as mentioned the ones we receive are the same a the original ( Cans ) but it was said that they are modernising the French ration so that may also mean it will be produced in retort pouches.

Here’s another (new to me) French ration. Just came in from France. Anyone seen the inside of one? I’ve noticed that both of these are 4k calories which is 400 more than regular RCIR and also looks like they are a bit heavier too, RCIR 1.75kg vs these two 1.9kg.

Here are the items from the “24H first strike ration” in the black bag. This is essentially the French version of US FSR which is filled with easy and quick to eat snacks, wraps, sandwiches etc. Pretty cool in my opinion. I’ll get to the green bag ration soon too.

We have just had the following rations come in, menu 1 & menu 2. Took a long shot on these as they were explained as " experimental rations recently issued to a unit as they are close to BBE ".

They are titled " Special Combat Ration " and have a little pamphlet attached to the front with details of each item ( Producer/ingredients/allergens ). Looks like they contain some items from the “24H first strike ration”mentioned above so it may have been a trail for that ration.

Nice! Thank you for sharing Giantdeer!

Now I can at least compare the codes on my items to figure out what’s what :)
