Vietnamese Military Rations "KHẨU PHẦN"

Post by fdsman » Mon May 27, 2024 7:45 pm

I noticed there was a distinct lack of information about modern-day Vietnamese armed forces rations in English, so with the power of AI and google translate, this is what I was able to come up with.

Presumably, the officer in charge of military nutrition and ration development showcasing the various types of rations in use by the Vietnamese military:

The more advanced field rations appear to be available in two different types:

KPA-01: This ration is designed to be eaten directly without any further preparation. It weighs 310g and provides energy ranging from 1,044 kcal to 1,115 kcal, it appears to contain some kind of flameless ration heater.

KPA-02: This ration contains food in pouches and includes three types of food It weighs between 142g and 145g. Like KPA-01, it is also designed to be eaten directly without any need for further preparation.

Both rations are part of the AT-02 ration, which is used for infantry operating in combat conditions. Each AT-02 ration weighs 1kg and provides energy ranging from 3,200 kcal to 3,400 kcal. It includes a balanced ratio of protein, glucose, and lipids. The AT-02 ration consists of two meals, KP-01 and KP-02, which offer six different menus.

The KPA-01 seems to be split up into at least the KPA-01A and KPA-01B, but I wasn't able to find much information on the difference between these two, perhaps different menu variations?

After a bit of searching, I managed to find a video of someone showing the contents of a KPA-02 ration:

The SOF rations are specialized food supplies developed for the Vietnamese special forces and navy. They are designed to be lightweight, compact, and easy to consume. The rations come in three forms:
Image
SOF-1 (including SOF-1A, SOF-1B): These are nutrient-rich paste tubes.
SOF-2: This is a gel water supplement.
SOF-V: These are supplementary tablets that enhance vitality and immunity.

The SOF-1 rations are made from functional foods combined with traditional ingredients (cashews, almonds, egg yolk powder, green beans, soybeans, and sugar) with two flavors, salty and sweet. They provide about 449-500Kcal/100g.
The gel tube is made from sugar, jelly, Eleutherococcus (Siberian ginseng) extract, etc., providing 300Kcal/100g. The SOF-V tablets are made from functional foods and some traditional foods, providing 318Kcal/100g.

All this being said, the above seem to be either fairly recent developments, or very rarely used by special forces units and the like, there seems to be far more evidence that traditional canned-style rations and a whole lot of compressed food bars are more commonplace than the above types.

The “Lương khô bay” is a compressed food bar designed for paratroopers and air force personnel.

These rations have about 396Kcal per 100g.
Ingredients: They are made from functional foods combined with traditional ingredients such as wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, butter, salt, condensed milk with sugar, milk powder, green bean powder.
Packaging: The rations are packed in a 4-layer aluminum composite packaging.
Shelf Life: These rations have a shelf life of 12 months.
Weight: Each package weighs 1000g and consists of 10 packs of rations, each weighing 100g.
