Heh, looking at the list I can see I need to buy some newer cases, I guess 2008 is already creeping up on us.. I need to double check, but I'm pretty sure the newest cases I have are 10/2008 or so, might be early 2009 though, I suppose it's a good idea to have that info in case TSHTF; although I don't have any older than 2006 inspect, so they're all good.
I'd rather see people refer to MREs based on the date packed. I see so many eBay auctions titled "2008 MREs" when that's really the inspection date. I know it sounds better than saying "2005 MREs" but it's misleading - even more so with the "2007 MREs" - because those could have been packed in 2004 or 2007 - so don't know unless the seller specifies it.
So I don't really have any 2010 MREs...but I do have a case that was packed in 2007. I'm eating one right now for dinner, in fact. Wow...I don't think I've ever had an MRE this fresh - it's only 3 months old! :-)

Does it taste any different from older ones?kman wrote: So I don't really have any 2010 MREs...but I do have a case that was packed in 2007. I'm eating one right now for dinner, in fact. Wow...I don't think I've ever had an MRE this fresh - it's only 3 months old!
It's hard to make that wheat snack bread taste any better, but it did have a somewhat softer texture to it. Not much, mind you, but it maybe tasted a little better than my usual 2-3 year old wheat snack breads.
Suprisingly, the Spice Pound Cake was disappointing in its freshness. It was still very soft but broke apart easily (pictures forthcoming). I think maybe pound cakes are best after they sit in their packaging for a couple of years - that firms them up and helps the sugar to crystalize into crunchy, sugary nuggets of poundcake-goodness. :-)
