British ORP Multi Climate Trial ration

Post by Giantdeer » Mon Mar 14, 2022 3:20 pm

Hi All

We had a load of old British ORPs come in today and in amongst them was quite a few boxed rations without a production date sticker/inkjet. On opening some up i noticed on the sheet included inside it mentioned they were part of the Multi climate ration trial in 2009/2010.
Whats throwing me off a little is some of the pack dates on components inside are dated 05/2010. Does anybody know how long the trials ran for or have any info on these packs. Please see pictures.

Trials ran in 2009-2010. Regular ORP Started production in 2011. These evolved from the 2007 / 2008 hot climate supplement into a 24HR. Full menu list for cases A and B on my orp menu spreadsheet.

tl;dr of it is, the regular components werent suited to hot climates and bacon + beans for every meal got old, total of 35 MCR Menus, 20 regular, then 15 kosher/halal/veg/etc
Basically, more drinks and food that can be enjoyed in most climates. These enjoyed some stuff like freeze dried breakfasts and desserts, more menu variation and etc.

Trials started in 2009 but most MCRs are production 2010 as in 2010 they produced only the MCRs instead of GP and some MCR. Overall these hold up 50/50. Alot dont taste too good any more and can actually be pretty dangerous to eat. They are worth about £20 if you push.

'Trial' makes these sound like prototypes that are super rare. They aren't. About 3.5 Million of these were produced, and the producer (Vestey) Sold them to civvies for about £15. So for a while you could buy cases upon cases for cheap. So alot of the MCRs on the market never saw military ownership.

Check out my ORP menu spreadsheet: https://bit.ly/2NqUFRX | I have: | British 24HR Box Rations | French RCIRs | Type I EPA |Danish Rations
