Trouble importing MREs into Australia

Post by Duman403 » Mon Feb 24, 2020 9:43 pm

Hey chaps,
I just got into this hobby thanks to some Youtubers etc etc

I bought some MREs from mremountain and ebay which came into Australia no problem, but as soon as I bought Japanese MREs they got turned down by customs. Is it because they've FRHs? Anyone had trouble with customs before?

Hi mate another Aussie here.
I've had no trouble with getting rations into Australia before. Seems weird they would turn them away for FRHs when I've had no trouble getting MREs and other foreign rations with the fuel tablets and stoves in them. Just a guess maybe the Japanese rations had some type of food product in them the customs didn't like.

Could they be on higher alert because of the Coronavirus?

In Canada lately every single ration that I've ordered recently regardless of where it is coming from or what it is are being inspected by the Canadian Border Services Agency. Nothing has been removed, just checked.

I bought a Russian ration on eBay and had it sent to Australia about 5 months ago. Australian customs did open the package and inspect its contents but they did not remove anything from it.

(On the other hand, my sister sent me a package from the US and used an old egg carton as packaging material in the box. The egg carton was seized and "immediately destroyed" for presenting "an unacceptable level of biosecurity risk.")

Probably. It was in postal limbo for like 2 months and would have arrived in customs after Xi made the COVID announcement.

My Russian one was allowed in with the stove, and so were the others (British, no heating element; French, stove), but my Japanese one with FRH didn't.
