The German Wehrmacht never used individual rations as regular food as we know the MRE, EPas etc today.
They usually got fed from field kitchens, even in the "last days" .

The "Eiserne Portion" (iron ration) was handed out only by the highest leader order if the troops were out of supply but not as a regular food. It was kept at the supply platoon.
