What exactly do you do with Yeast extract? And where did it come from?

Hi friends. I had an opportunity to try, for the first time ever, yeast extract, and I am left confused. I'm not saying it was bad, I don't want to offend anyone, its just new to me. Every nation and peoples have their own delicacies. I've seen it in Aussie ration reviews. How did it come to be that Aussies started eating yeast extract? Does anyone know when the practice started?
As far as the rations, do you Aussies just put it on crackers? I'm very fascinated by it. I love salty foods, and this stuff was certainly salty. I love some salty Ukrainian foods that probably wouldn't make sense to many of you.

Thanks so much. Happy yeast extract eating to you.

Haha! I had the pleasure of trying it at the meet up, and while I didn’t hate it, it certainly was an “experience”. I didn’t get brave and put it on bread with some cheese, which Ol’ Mate Dropbear said was an Aussie thing to do with it. Maybe one day.

Toast, butter + yeast extract = heaven.
Also don’t knock beans on toast until you’ve tried it!
And tea without milk is rubbish!

God save the Queen!

😂

As an Aussie I just eat it straight out of the jar on a spoon. But the best way is on toast with lots of butter and just a tiny little bit on the knife to spread beautiful.
