Hi everyone!
I just bought this ration off of eBay - a 2001 Australian air force pilot survival ration. A few bars have opened, but it seems to be in really good condition. If anyone has information about this ration please tell me!
Thank you

According to the info sheet the blue/ purple thing is for quality control. Maybe it shows the menu? Or maybe it changes color when wet.

Survival rations rarely (or never from what I've seen) have menu options so it's probably a reactive piece of paper, probably to heat/time...

That's really cool Cap! Never seen that before, amazing to see not much has changed in terms of the chocolate bars, biscuits and muesli bars. A lot of it is made in New Zealand.
I only ever had the CR1Ms when I was in for a year, and those little paper squares were in all of them. I think they are used to identify which ration menus/types the components were destined for before the ration itself is packed, you would see a corresponding colour square on the ADF cardboard boxes that contained 2 sealed metal canisters of 5 rations each.
Funny story - when I was doing basic training and they were giving us a lesson on ration packs during our first time out field, one of our section commanders tricked us into believing that those paper squares were "beer rations" for when we got back to the base for use at the pub. He also stashed a $50 note in the accessory pack to make us think that some rations contained money for us to spend at local shops in case our supply was low! It was really convincing at the time...

Really neat!
I picked up this partial 1997 Australian ration not too long ago:
They look fairly similar. I don't remember what my main is, I'd look but it is packed up somewhere right now...
