NEW British Ration Item

I have just read on the UK Armed Forces website that, starting from Monday, a new type of dish is being inserted into the 2019 menus for ORP rations issued to the British army. I am sure it will be the next thing on everyone’s ration bucket list!

The food-tech chaps at Aldermaston have outdone themselves and finally a British ration includes…fish and chips! Yes, after years of research the guys have managed to make a shelf-stable cod-in-batter which retains its colour and a certain amount of crunch. The accompanying chips (yes, our American friends, chips and not fries :D) are perfectly soggy, just like they are at the local chippy.

A nice touch is the inclusion of a sachet of vinegar in the accessory pack, another first.

On top of this, they have even introduced a new side of mushy peas as a perfect accompaniment to the fish and chips.

According to one of my contacts, who happens to belong to a unit asked to test the new ration, the food is ‘really delicious, but does have a tendency to glow slightly in the dark’.

I will post a picture as soon as I can. My cousin is in the 2nd Staffordshire Battalion and can usually get hold of all the new stuff.

I'll have to keep an eye out for it, if its true.

If so hopefully I can keep one back for a swap on this site. :D

I loved the beef jerky I used to get with the pack, chicken Korma is my favourite.
