I'm sure there are those here who would tell you to use the microwave (after putting the pouch contents into a microwave safe bowl) but something about nukin an MRE just seems wrong

I've found the way i like best to heat brit/canadian rations is to immerse the entree pouch in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes or so. Good and clean, and heats it up evenly. I've used this method on a couple MRE entrees too, i prefer it for uniform heating and is especially good if heating multiple entrees.

. But i'll admit i did have to do it once after damaging the entree pouch -
Do not open a british ration with a box cutter

British ORP
I hate to say it but British squaddies will brew up given 10 minutes to sit down, get their bergens off and take a breather. I've brewed up in that length of time in Canada, Bosnia, Kosovo, Albania, Germany, Scotland, Beligum and the Acension Islands. With Hexi, Gas burner, multi fuel stoves, BV's and once over a wood fire. I've brewed up whilst waiting as reserve section in a Company attack, waiting to go on a Living Firing Platoon attack, waiting for a LCVP or for helicopters. I suspect squaddies will spend hours perfecting the art of the hot brew in the shortest length of time possible. And yes, I've gone thro 6 pints of hot bews in a day, which is roughly how much brew kit there is an an ORP. Although no one likes the instant tea, it tastes cack, there's only one strength of tea(cack) and there's no teabag to wipe hexi off your mess tin!
