the Red Cross makes it an ambulance or a 'Band Aid' Version, set up for battlefield evacuation of casualities.
Bandaids were not normally armed......at least back in my time-late 60's- late 70's...

Yeah, your partially correct on that. Sometimes there would be an un-armed M113 or a M577 out there in camo with a red cross on each side. We still have them in the Army National Guard but they're slowly phasing them out. I see more of the HUMVEE ambulances running around next to the M113's. Back a few years ago a M113 would not be armed unless is was with a big heavy cavalry unit.
