Help, 7-28 days fresh production rations, UK (Britain), advise please
Hi All,
Hopefully this is the correct place to post.
I have a few questions that I am hoping readers can help me with/comment on.
I live in the UK and I am looking for something in the region of 1 week to 1 months rations.
I would like good tasting rations as opposed to a ration designed just for sustenance. The main purpose is to stash some in my home for bad weather situations, some for camping expeditions and some to put in the car.
I got caught up in bad weather last year where the whole motorway came to a stand still in freezing & snowy conditions for hours on end. A hot meal would have been a real boon.
1: Having browsed for a while now I decided Meal Kit Supply (12 meals) looked good but have discovered they only ship in US & Canada. There is an Amazon.co.uk listing for MKS but is 'out of stock'.
Does anyone know, is it likely the amazon.co.uk listing will come back into stock soon, now that MKS have released their latest 2019 batch (available to US & Canada)? The amazon.co.uk seller is listed as 'Meal Kit Supply', so I assume the seller is the actual company Meal Kit Supply as opposed to some random person having set up a listing with that name?
2: I really like the look of the British Army ration packs, (the ones in the boxes) but I am not sure if civilians can buy them. I have seen old ones listed but I am not sure if I want old ones. Can you buy British army rations from 2018/19?
I have looked around for UK based Civilian MREs and am left bewildered as to what is good and what is not.
Are the EVAQ8.co.uk, 'RationX' any good? They seem expensive. There seems to be plenty of options for brands offering single wet meal pouches but the full 24 hour rations packed in a dedicated pouch or box that appeal.
Can I get fresh American civilian 24 hour ration packs in the UK for a decent price or does shipping make it too expensive?
I don't want to pay extra if there is a tasty/good UK pack.
3: I am also considering freeze dried meals. Mountain House seems very popular in online taste tests but they have ceased production in Europe. As far as I can tell, the company that Mountain House were using to make their product in Europe, (European Freeze Dry) now produce similar meals under the brand 'Summit to eat'. Does anyone know if the 'Summit to eat' is a like for like meal to the 'Mountain House' or have they changed or cheapened the ingredients in the 'Summit to eat'? Are they any good?
4: Having now become quite interested in this world of long life shelf stables foods, I am also considering acquiring a few of the freeze dried food tins with a circa 25 year life span.
Does anyone know what 'Fuel your preparation' tins of freeze dried food is like?
Thanks in advance for any comments that may help me narrow down my focus or provide the solution I need.
Regards, 007.

Ok long paragraph here!
The british army rations are completely fine to aquire BUT it has to be sold as surplus and not taken from the base without permission.
MKS probably wont restock because of the brexit, as far as a months ration goes cross out amazon and RationX as an MRE is like 20 quid and rationX takes a little while to arrive and is pricy
You could go with cans but they are rare over here and can be expensive and the pouches not much better (£11 for 1 portion of chili mac)
But it really depends what you want to do, the ORPs have a 3 year shelf life officially but they dont really seem to go bad at all apart from lamb for some reason.
If you wanted a hot meal in your car I would suggest a SMR or MRE you can get 2 packs for cheap especially considering the freshness :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-SING ... Sw1lFdl774
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-SING ... Swdy1doRNo
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-SING ... SwKeNdoRZJ
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-Army ... Sw4DJdWq0Z
Or you could get one that comes with a Norwegian ration:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-SING ... SwyQ1dlKsx
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-SING ... SwZb9doRwd
The patrol rations are essentially SMRs but they have some extra drinks and more snacks ( abit like the UAE or NZ ):

Hope this list helps you out.

Re: Help, 7-28 days fresh production rations, UK (Britain), advise please
Hey Korey,
Thank you so much, so helpful!!
You covered everything I needed.
I ordered 3 various cases of 24 hour packs with a current production date.
Superb. Should cover me for the car, camping & a few weeks for various locations
I do have another question. Many descriptions will only state the inspection date & not the pack date.
How far in advance of a pack date is the inspection date set.
Ie, if a ration has an inspection date of 2020, is it likely the package date is 2018 or earlier?

24PD09/18 under the menu number or: 09/18 sept 2018 ( last month of the boxes i belive )
or it will be printed on the top right of the "text chunk" on the beige bag.
officially they have a 3-5 year life so I would assume 3 year inspect but you never really know I would just check the sticker
edit: the menus do vary each few months so the mains could be fresher then say the oat meal block or just nuts mix

Oh Snap! Do the British 24hour ORPs in the cardboard boxes come with FRH's?
If not, who makes the best FRH's that I can purchase on their own so I can add it to my ration boxes?
I assume that some brands will heat better than others?

The UK 24 hour rations have no heating device - you have the boil them in the pouch for 8 mins
if you want a good FRH get a BTBT one they are more powerful then a harrier
