Wall Street Journal Article about French Military Rations

Post by gschultz9 » Thu Mar 06, 2014 10:18 am

There is an article on the front page of today's Wall Street Journal about the history of French combat rations. It's pretty interesting, and as a bonus, I was actually interviewed for this article myself a couple times last fall! The writer saw my videos on YouTube about the RCIR I reviewed and was looking for some American input on the topic. I'm only mentioned in one line of the article, but that's okay, as I can't say I know a whole LOT about the French rations. Anyway, here's the article if you care to read it (sorry for the long URL):

French Military Rations, Featuring Camembert and Cassoulet, Are Prized by Civilians, Too

Mod: I insert the URL into the headline for you, so no need to apologize for the long URL ;-)

Good afternoon all, my first post on this great site.

The French ration packs are very good and use a lot of 'off the shelf' canned food. They did include a quarter bottle of wine but this stopped about twenty years ago. Sorry not to have read the article but I'm not subscribed to the Journal.

Ration packs indeed reflect their country of origin

Bloody hell, good to see you too mate. I stopped on CCS a few months ago, taking an extended break lol. Sold off most of my stove collection but I'm moving house and it has a 'man cave' (shed) so I might start buying, fettling and selling on again.

Good site this been lurking here for several years and decided to join. I've had an interest in rat packs for a long time and tried a lot from different countries and this place does indeed have some great information.

I know it's been a while since this thread has been active, but just wanted to respond.

I'm sorry about that. Apparently they let you see articles when they're new (for a day or two? Longer? Not sure). I just checked and I can't see it either (also not a subscriber). The link's not dead or anything, but now they want people to pay for the privilege or reading it. Oh well. I'll poke around and see if there's any other way of sharing it.

Also, thank you very much for the kind words Rationista! Sorry I didn't see them sooner (I would have thanked you sooner!).
