New Japanese ration

Post by laughing_man » Sat Mar 15, 2014 8:24 am

I got some new Japanese rations.
They are the "Combat Ration Type I" of a plastic pack.
The existing Type I is canned food.
The packaging design of a new Type I and Type II is very alike.
However, they have the following differences.
Type I : Parachute drop is OK and a best-before date is three years.
Type II : Parachute drop is NG and a best-before date is one year.
They mainly have a difference in the package of rice.

A new Type I has 20 menus.
The details are in the site of the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

taco is not an octopus but a taco of the Mexico food.

An octopus taco sounded interesting  , but so does a Japanese version of a normal taco. :?:

Iam jealous you were able to get some, will you be tasting them?

Thanks for the info and pics, laughing_man! :D I'm curious, are the JGSDF rations available to the general public in Japan or are they restricted at all? From what I've seen of them here in forums, they also seem more nutritious than some of our MREs.

Hi, rationtin440

JGSDF ration isn't marketed.
The way we the average citizens get JGSDF ration:
  • Receive from soldiers
  • Internet auction
I'm indefinite in whether they are lawful.
However, SDF doesn't complain to an average citizen :!:
I think that it's tacit permission
