Iron rations question

Post by Kats » Sat Jun 22, 2013 10:09 pm

Does anyone know a way to tell the reproduction iron rations from the real ones? I'm talking about the small bagged ones that had a tin of food and package of crackers in a paper sack. Thanks

It is almost impossible today to find slab-sided cans, i.e. without reinforcing ribs. Also, most genuine WW2-era German cans had a code embossed in the lid. Today, such codes are stenciled or screened on. Another thing to look for is the thickness of the can wall - cans back then were noticeably thicker.
"I think," said Christopher Robin, "that we ought to eat all our Provisions now, so that we shan't have so much to carry."
