Thanks for reply norge! That is kind of what I thought it looked like as well, a spread of some kind. Of course the very best spread to put into a ration is the infamous Nutella chocolate and hazelnut spread. Just my opinion, but I have yet to find anyone who does not love it or at least like it alot. Very poular here in the states but I don't know of any nation's military rations which contain it as Nutella specifically.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen something. Twice now I've had CR1M's come with M&Ms that were basically a bag of pulverized dust - as though it were hot cocoa powder with crumbled M&M shell mixed in. Everything else in the CR1M was fine each time - crackers, chcocolate bars, etc - the stuff you'd assume would also be smashed if it had been rough handled or something. I've never seen it happen with M&Ms produced in the US and I've found plenty of them up to just about 30 years old - always more or less intact.

The dark chocolate in the Norwegian rations made by Brunberg Oy is pretty good.
