Canadian IMP's

Post by fastlx » Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:20 am

I just got a case of misc Canadian IMP's. I dont know what year they are, I will have to look. My question is this....what is the shelf life of them? The one I have are in white bags if that helps. Thanks and let me know.

The year should be a large two or four digit number, printed on the front of the ration bag in quotation marks. I believe this is the production year of the ration but i'd have to double check that.

The shelf life should be about the same as MRE, generally between 3-10 years depending on storage conditions (but there are people here who have consumed MRE's that are 20+ years old... i refer to these individuals as crazy people!) Some of the minor components of the Canadian meals may have shorter shelf life due to use of commercial products.

If you haven't already, take a look at the "Canadian IMP" and "Longevity" sections linked from the site's front page.

dermeister gave a great answer. The only thing I'd add is that some of the Canadian IMP entrees are made by Wornick - the same Wornick that makes US MREs. So I'd expect the same or similar shelf lives for at least the entree parts.

IMP's expore 3 years after the date of packing.
So 2008 menu expire in 2011 but there still good for 5-7 years after if stored in a cool dry location.
