Not Sure
Not sure a person could get through customs with overseas rations. If US FDA or Customs destroyed a boatload of British ICMs due to restrictions, then WHAT??
Anyone know?

I think it would be hit or miss with bringing them back in person. Technically, you're supposed to declare any food that you're bringing back in. I've done this before (bringing back candy, etc.) and they didn't even blink when they looked at the form. Now, if I had a suitcase full of French rations and they looked into it, that might raise some eyebrows and might irritate them if they saw some beef entrees in there (mad cow?).
On the other hand, if I were just bringing back a few rations, that might not be much of a problem - just depends on your luck that day.

Germany
Good idea Kman, I have a friend who visits Germany once a year with his company. Once there they travel all over (almost) Europe. I can ask him to do a big favor. My wife's brother just retired from the SeaBees. His last assingment was the state dept. His job was checking our embassy's overseas (elec. egineer) I could kick myself for not thinking of this earlier.
Customs?? Will this be a problem.

Someday, we need to solve this issue of buying rations on ebay. I mean some sick minded person could posion us and run away with our money, although the package is sealed, I know some people that are very good at opening packages and resealing them. It looks just like it was never opened.kman wrote:What we really need is someone who is visiting France who's willing to carry back about 50lbs worth of French rations. That would definitely save on shipping...I mean, as long as you already had your own $500 plane ticket.

I had some of the old-style French rations during the Gulf War. These were the kind with a small bottle of plonk and a pack of Le Troupe cigarettes. The wine was kinda nasty on reflection, but at the time (no alcohol allowed) it was booze and so it was OK. The cigarettes were good for keeping the bugs away.
The food was alright, but some of it was obviously spoiled and inedible (bulged cans, etc.), probably from being stored in a desert environment for a few months. A few of the items (usually the lamb items) were just nasty, gray meat and gray vegetables. I didn't think it was a good idea to try the pork items, so I didn't. On the whole, though, they weren't all that bad, I've had alot worse. I actually liked almost all of the beef entrees.
