It's also the easiest to simply dip the cracker in the spread instead of smearing it on (saves you a dirty knife or spoon in your gear) and it's a lot faster :D
This cracker were more than "danish sweet crackers". Nothing close to German "tank sheet" (Panzerplatten). If you dip them, they will crumble :( so you have to spread them anyway.

US crackers with cheese or peanut butter are the "easiest" way of eating them. Just squeeze them out of the pouch on the cracker

We have several makes of dehydrated foods here. I like the Mountain House brand ones. As previously stated, the big problem is adding the water.

Since you have to boil the water anyway, you don't necessarily chemically treat it. The boiling will take care of the nasties for you.

The powered foods have a very very very long shelf life, but I also prefer a good MRE over them. Easy cooking with the FRH and nothing really to prepare. You can eat them cold if need be.

Todays snack was the Energy Chocolate:

Note the nutrition facts

50g chocolate are 262kcal (similar to a whole MRE entree), but from 16.45g fat

It´s a

dark chocolate, not as sweet as milk chocolate, but will not melt into the sun

Is there caffein in the "energy" chocolate?
Like the ones in the Dutch and older German rations (and with the older German ones I mean the ones with Scho-ka-kola :? )
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

It doesn't have to be on the nutritional facts, some species of cacao beans contain a high amount of caffein.
Except for the "staying awake" part, it also helps with the taste. It bitters the choclate on another way, what you can't achieve by "just making it darker". But mostly there is somesort of warning like "this product contains caffein". But for example, the dutch ones tasted different then normal dark choclate, more like scho-ka-kola. I read it in the handbook later on, that it contains caffein. (1 bar of 40 grams = 2.5 cups of strong coffee).. combined with a lot of sugar, it helps to wake up in the mornings :D

>>> dark choclate fan <<<

By the way, scho-ka-kola was also in the bundesluftwaffe rations in the beginning, I believe it was untill the sixties.
I believe it was on the scho-ka-kola website were I read that. I still buy it civil.. just love those cans, and it doesn't melt that easy.. :D

cocoa, cacao....has some caffeine not as much as the coffee beans.
Cacao ia a powerful antioxidant. It has twice the ammount of red wine and three times more antioxidants than green tea.
Pure cacao has good cardiovascular benefits, but the more is processed the least are the benefits... So it helps with heart diseases.

So ...enjoy your chocolate!!!!!
Peace!
