Chicken Mushroom Paste in British 24 Ration

Post by hannonmc » Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:15 pm

I just took the delivery of a British 24 hr ration pack... There was no cheese spread or beef pate... however there was this packet of Chicken Mushroom paste... Is this like a chicken pate? Or is it intended to be another soup?

Thanks for any input...

They took the cheese out a long time ago... before 2004. It wasn't holding up out in the desert heat that well or so I have heard

What date is pack? as recently (05 - onwards) the pastes have been coming in retort packages, normally made by a company called Princes (or somthing like that) I don't have one to hand here just Tuna chuncks in light mayo.

Paste is potted meat, Don't know if its available in America, similar to pate but with a much longer shelflife (I got jar exp 2011) Its basically the same just in a different pouch.

Not sure of the exact date... Will have to look at the box again...

Yes, the paste is made by Princes and is in a retort bag.

Figured it was some sort of pate like substance, but wanted to be sure.

I got interested in the ration pack from this sight. I'm just amazed at how much is crammed in there!

Would love to get my hands on a French or Italian ration pack!

For such a small box its pretty incredible how much is in there, its a 24 hour pack so they have used the space very well. I doubt 3 MRE's would fit in there*

Sounds like a test :D

Like the pate but in a plastic pouch and paste form.

These started rocking up in rations I had last summer instead of the pate in tins. Not sure how I feel about them. I mean its good they are using commercial quality food. But I can't stand mushrooms, nor can I stand the tuna which is in the other menus! Hence this one is in my 'collection/war reserve stock' rather than being in my stomach 8)
