Nice find.
Don't know much about the "suppenpaste," but it seems to date from the late 1960's. It may not be a military item.
The Pacific 24-hour Ration was developed by the British in 1944 in time for the Burma campaign. A day's ration consisted of three of these lightweight tins, banded together, which had the lids scored to be opened with a knife blade or coin; can openers were not required. Inside should be 2-3 thick, hard military crackers, a couple of oatmeal blocks, a small can of cheese and another of jam, tea or tea blocks (tea, milk, & sugar combined), some hard candies, 2 bars of hard chocolate, a small foil tube of condensed milk (looks like a small tube of toothpaste), salt tablets, matches, two sugar cubes, and chewing gum. 2 small cans (about 4 1/2 oz each) were issued separately to complete the ration; the "breakfast" tin had liver & bacon, fish & egg, or ham & egg, while the "supper"tin contained beef & onions, steak & kidney pudding, or "ham galantine" (i.e. SPAM).
The entire ration had to be canned b/c of the hot, humid climate of Burma. Compared to other rations, very few were produced and the contract was cancelled at wars end. What little remained were issued during the Java campaign in 1945-46.

Re: old english and german rations
I saw the tin ration on ebay.co.uk figured it was old, I just missed out on a 1980's Compo ration one man mk5.... very rarely come up for sale.
Wien is the German for Vienna... the capital of Austria...which makes me think that this is Austrian not German... I'm not too sure what it is but if I am pronouncing it right then I think its a its kind of like a stock drink, slightly salty with dried herbs floating on the top. I was told it can be used as hangover cure.
Hopfully some of the German members will be able to give you a better description than mine
Gaz
EDIT.... Its also go OSTMARK on the label, the currency of old East Germany... man now I am confused

That "Suppenpaste" (soup base/stock drink) is ~1944 Austrian made (Frisch & Haupt Wien).CCD wrote:I found some old rations on ebay,i've never seen before maybe some members can tell us about them?

It say´s "Ostmark" on it because "Ostmark" was the German name for Austria after its "Anschluss" with Germany 1938-1945.
Seem´s civilian to me, but very nice historical find!

He told us that anithing of the former nazi regime was forbidden and against the law....
