OOPS!
Oh well, if there's only 3300 cals, then the Soldats are slowly starving. The U.S. troops are losing weight on 4500 !
Extra supliments are required in combat !

I thought MREs averaged around 1250 kCals per package before stripping?

It varies, ~ 950 - 1500, depending on the menu. Still not enough when you're humping WAY too much gear. I shudder every time I see those guys packing all their equipment !
