WTB: Rations (First time buyer, need some advice!)

Post by brianw » Thu Jun 01, 2017 5:24 pm

Hey all,

First time posting here and excited to get into trying as many different MREs / rations as possible. Looking for some fresh ones from the US, Europe, Asia, etc. Looking for a pack of 4 if possible as well.

Would appreciate any advice also on where to start and what the best tasting MREs would be. Not looking for anything rare or super expensive, and would like to try real rations over civilian type.

Thanks!
-B

Standard US MREs can be found at your local army surplus or at gun shows, craigslists, garage sales, etc. Anything aside from that, you're going to have to look around a bit. Always check craigslist just in case someone is offering some MREs, LRPs, MCWs, etc. I use a tool called CraigsHunter (http://www.craigshunter.com/) and add keywords like "MRE*" "LRP*" "ration*", etc. so whenever someone lists such an item on craigslist, I am instantly notified about it. I've scored a few things this way.

And of course, there's eBay. You'll be able to find most current production rations on eBay, but be ready to pay a pretty price.

And don't forget about this forum. In this very section, members offer all kinds of neat items for sale/trade.

Appreciate the reply! I'm actually in Canada so I was hoping to find someone on the forum who could help hook me up with some US MRE's. I've definitely seen quite a few on eBay as well. If anyone can sell me some US ones I'm definitely interested!

I'm here in Canada too. Get ready to pay a lot in shipping costs. Surprisingly it can be cheaper to get things from Europe than to get them from the US. Up to a certain point though.... if it gets too heavy than Europe REALLY makes you pay for the shipping, to a crazy degree.

A member here "Delicious" is a really nice helpful guy who can send you European stuff. He is in Poland. Well liked on here. Also makes good review videos. There are a few US guys too who get US and European stuff too like watts and drew78 etc.
I'm only a little bit-part player myself but seeing as people here have been very nice and helpful to me I'll try help out any member who asks me, if I can do it. I can get the British stuff and more common EU stuff here myself.

Just to add, as for the "best tasting" the French stuff is really great. Very fancy. Polish rations are really hearty and great quality. The 24hr ones are HUGE. Lithuanian are basic but of predictably decent quality and cheap to get/widely available. The British 24hr rations can have some real nice stuff in them too. They're all pretty easy to find. There's so much out there, I havnt even come close to checking out a quarter of it myself yet. Go watch some videos from the likes of steve1989, gundog, gschultz, delicious, oldsmokey etc and see what you like the look of

brianw - Welcome! You have come to the perfect place to educate yourself on all things MRE/rations. As Conrad noted, many members to draw from via PM or their respective eBay stores. Good hunting and enjoy.

Thanks to everyone's advice so far! Had a good haul recently at a surplus store in my area. Excited to try some of these out!
