Hi - I'm new to the hobby and just yesterday I met with some friends who are former/retired US Mil. So, as a joke I gave a current MRE to one friend as a gag gift and the conversation reveals that he's got some vintage stuff from when he was in the military.
I pestered him into sending me some photos thinking it might be worth something to the collectors here. I have seen so many of the you tube reviews of some of the forums members here. I thought just maybe there would be some interest.
I can't seem to get the file attachments working here yet, (nvrmind. Got it now) so I'll describe the item in writing and contact me via board PM in you're interested in buying. I can forward pictures via email.
1 case of MCI rations, excellent condition. Wire wrap still on case. Case lot # is 79, date packed 10/78, inspection test date 10/80. Menu C. Ser # 8970-00-577-4513. DLA 13H-78-C-0907. Southern Packaging and Storage Co. Mullins SC 29574.
If you're interested, shoot me a PM. I'll get back to you.

Jeff
Vintage MCI Case for Sale
Re: Vintage MCI Case for Sale
Wow - that's a nice-looking case! Do you have any idea how it was stored over the years? What part of the country?
Re: Vintage MCI Case for Sale
It was stored in Southern California for at least 10 years. It was in the guys house, so indoors of a private residence.
He was holding onto it as a "prepping" habit, (although not like the modern phrase indicates). He has other MRE's from a little bit later in his service career, ( I think you can see one case in back in one of the photos ).
Like many people, he didn't know there was a hobby community around the rations, so I said lets put it out there and see what kind of interest it generates.

Very nice case. On the down side this means that I am almost vintage....SD_Jeff wrote:Hi - I'm new to the hobby and just yesterday I met with some friends who are former/retired US Mil. I'm 54 and he's about 10 years older than me. So, yeah, I'm getting to be "vintage" myself

In case anyone is interested in this, I have possession of the item now. I flipped it upside down and took another photo of the bottom to show what it looks like. There is no external signs of leakage or staining from the internal items.
I sniffed around and it smells like old cardboard, nothing else.
I'll take this add down on the second Saturday of February.
