I'm doing a trade with prado in the Russian federation. Any tips or info on mailing stuff that I should be aware of. I have never done any international shipping.

It might be a bit tough to communicate this, but it definitely helps for the contents of the package to be labeled as "Camping Supplies". Prado definitely should not label the parcel as food or a gift or anything like that. So far all packages I've received internationally that were marked as Camping Supplies made it through just fine without delays, but packages with other content labels like Ration, Army Food, etc have been held up and in about half of those cases part or all of the shipment was confiscated because it is technically illegal to import meat or dairy into the US.

The rule is there to prevent restaurants and supermarkets from importing foreign goods as a way of getting around the FDA if I understand correctly, so it shouldn't really apply to people like us in my opinion. The problem is that certain customs agents feel that it does apply and it can be an expensive surprise when we get a letter from customs instead of a package of rations.

It's a crapshoot that your stuff will go through shipping without being molested, so I just gave up on it after two unhappy experiences in a row a few years ago.

Shame, because it sometimes seems like the international members of this board are the most active. And they are the ones who have the good stuff.

The explanantion I've heard for the restriction on mailing meat and dairy is the threat of Mad Cow disease. Not sure if that's true or not.

Is sad but true. That's the "official excuse" Mad Cow disease,but in reality is simple protectionism.the government is trying to protect the local industry of any disease and cheaper goods.....
Every country does it in different ways but one same goal, protect their own.
