I don't know if any of you guys are keeping up with the Mountain House group buys over at ar15.com but there have been a number of changes and I'll try to update everyone here.
Short story:
No more MH group buys at ar15.com. Instead, head over to warrifles.com and this thread:
http://warrifles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21106
They'll be starting a new group buy soon. The last buy was around $80k and they're hoping for $100k on this next one.
Long story:
The Mountain House group buy was being run by a guy with the handle "Broadsword22" and his wife "Dijon". I'd link you up to the thread on arfcom but it looks like it's been removed so you can't read the long, long story and the ugly ending yourself.
I just started typing out the semi-long version of what happened and I realized it wasn't worth all the typing. Here's a super-condensed summary:
1. Broadsword and Dijon posted the handles of four people who put in an order but didn't pay.
2. Moderators spanked Broadsword verbally for doing that.
3. Moderators then tried to shake down Broadsword - said if he wanted to hold future group buys there, he'd have to offer discounts to the arfcom members who had paid for a special arfcom membership.
4. Broadsword said he was just passing on the costs and wasn't making any money on the deal so he didn't have any further discount to offer anyone.
5. Moderators said if you don't offer a discount, get the hell out.
6. Broadsword said fine and got the hell out.
That's just my own take on the situation. I thought the moderators at arfcom were being complete asses about the situation. But hey, it's their board and they can run it like they want. It's too bad things turned out the way they did.
But fortunately for us all, Broadsword and Dijon are now on warrifles.com and aren't planning on stopping the group buys anytime soon.
I'll personally vouch for these two - I participated in previous group buy and everything went great.
New Mountain House group buy, new location
I can vouch for both Broadsword and Dijon, as well. I took part in the grooup buys they ran at AR15.com. They were very good about answering questions and replying to e-mails. The discounts they were able to secure were very good. The order I received was exactly the order I placed. I have no problem recommending them regardless of what site they are currently running their group buy from.
