This morning whilst cranking Slayer, waiting to start a new job( first good job in four years: $12.50 an hour vs. $7.30. you do the math), and dreaming about all the tactical goodies the Employment Fairy was going to bless me with, i decided to log into ebay, and hunt me up some MREs. I've been out for months. I hated digging into my doomsday supply, but going hungry sucks.

So you can imagine how it feels to log in and see that most cases are going for about $75.00, and up. i saw a civilian grade case of Sopacko manufactured stuff for $90.00..........

Seriously, I'm sick to death of the price gouging by people who probably did not pay even close to what they are selling them for. It's getting ridiculous, and I'm not playing ball. all the price gougers can kiss my underemployed,over-taxed, and utterly disgusted ass. Doom On You....

Nope, I guess i'm going to hold out and go to Knob Creek this year as always. I'll get them for $50.00 a case and I'll buy at least twelve cases. I'll be stuffing my effing face, cramming as much Marble Pound Cake into my yapper as is possible, and Ebay can suck it. Hard.

Well, I can say for sure that not only are MRE's prices going up but other things on ebay too. I stopped buying MRE parts and things on ebay about a year ago because that's when I starting noticing the prices on such un-important items were going for ridculous offers. Your right: Inflation is not the reason, it's greed and I'm sure we all know about that.

I can't blame them. If people can sell MRE cases for $75.. why would they sell them for $50?
Even those people have children, homes (morgage), cars etc..

I seriously doubt it that Knob creek prices will be the same each year. They will also go up if the sellers realise they are missing out on the dollars..
In europe, US mre's go for around €75 (!) per case.. that's over $100 per case.....

Valid points sir, but here's something I've found: Being right next door to Ft. Knox, the prices remain cheap because the amount of them available is staggering. They sell them at that price in order to sell them quickly and make their money, as the event is only a three day affair. I saw guys sitting outside of the range by the side of the road selling their extra cases for thirty bucks apiece. That being said, surely, they can sell them on ebay, and make better money, but they say it's far easier to just wait and sell them at the range. most of these guys are getting them from the base or whatnot, and I have heard that during FTxs, most troops preferred to just bring their own chow and that the MREs issued are often thrown away because nobody wanted to use them. Once something is issued, it cannot be entered back into the inventory system. A friend of mine serving in the National Guard confirms this. He just scoops up what he wants to take when his duties are done and dumps them into the trunk of his car.

Food items are enviroment sensitive (warm weather might give quality issues on the long term) so they can't be entered back into the inventory, for health issues obviously. Non-sensitive items can be reentered without problems. Actually, you can reenter the MREs aswell, but it's just procedure to scrap rations. Also, the cost of rations is relatively low.

It's just the military way of saying better safe then sorry..
