German Epas

Post by jubifahrer » Thu Feb 09, 2006 7:56 pm

Hi Folks,

would it be interresting for you, to ship german epas to usa, or is the shipping price to high ?

Or isnt it allowed to ship epas to usa.

What would you pay for an german epa ? I wanna ask tomorrow at post office for the shipping price to usa.

i also would change german epas to an c ration ? maybe this is tempting to you.

best regards

rudi

Hi Rudi. I would definitely be interested. I don't know what shipping would cost to US but it would good if you could find out from your post office. I've checked shipping before from the UK and it was too expensive. But maybe the German post office is a little better.

Are you looking to trade for c-rations (MCIs) which are the old Vietnam-era rations:

or the current MREs?

I don't think shipping is restricted into the US. Sometimes you take a chance that a customs inspector won't like that you're shipping in food but most people seem to mark the packages as "camping supplies" and that seems to be ok.

Ok, i cheched the price for shipping.

there is one way to ship, no airmail, i think not ensured, german post means DHL. For one is the price 12,9 Euro(ca 16$) and the price for a 1998 to 2001 epa will be 10 or 12 Euro in germany. I hoped to get them at german bundeswehr, because iam a reserve, but they dont sell them at present. so i have to by them at german ebay, but i also have 40 in my storage 8) so one will cost you 25 Euor ( 30$) Is this an good offer for you. I dont know, tell me if interesting? you habe to think about, that an epa is equal to 3 MRE. One EPA is made to give one fighting man for 24 hours enough food.

Also got some french rations :)

The year of the epa means the year of packing them. German epas may be good for 20 years or longer. I tested by myself last year an 1974 epa, without any problems. There are only a few problems with the jam, the pachage is somtimes broken. Also you have to look for the instant orange powder, may be sometimes cristalized. But it depens of the company and the type of package. I readed, that there are same problem with some MRE utilities.

to send them via airmail and ensured is much more expensiv. but if you want to have 4 pieces, you can maybe get themfor 85 Euro, ensured but no airmail, need 10 or 12 days for shipping. the price for one will then be 25 $.

the international post is very complicated, you have very much ways to send something. better ask me again :)

i think the current MRE are very cheap in germany. you can get one case A or B for 40 euro means 48$ at present, includes shipping. inspect date will be in 2007.
At moment iam eating an MRE type 3 Beef ravioli, bought this few days ago for 2,4 $ from a GI in my town. Iam living in the near to schweinfurt, maybe you know it. I think there is the 1st Infantry Division, V Corps, US Army. There are very much US Army stations near to me. Würzburg, kitzingen and us airport giebelstadt. they will be all reducated, maybe closed. This is not good for our region, many working places depend on this :(

But the c rations from korea or vietnam are very hard to get in germany.

iam very happy to find this forum :D

Hi Rudi. Thanks for checking on the shipping. US$30 is a bit too high for me. It would be worth it if I just needed a single one for a collection but I'm more into the "eat it" type of collecting so I'll probably just have to wait until I can find some of these rations already over here in the US to make them more affordable. But thanks for trying!

Hi kman,

its the same or me. if i need a ration for my collection i pay this price.

iam a collector and eater ;) I try to get all the time two rations of each type. one for eating and one for collection.

unfortunatley the shipping costs to usa are very high and i have no possibility to send in another way.

but my offer is still actually, if i can help a collector with.

i saw some epas on usa ebay, selling for 30 $ and more, so i hoped to make you hapy with this offer.

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... %3AIT&rd=1

this is an before 1989 typ IV, interessting for collection. still can eat it, but some utilitys may not be ok.

two years ago at german ebay you got 4 epas for 20 euro or less, but this times aro gone :(

know iam searching an cheaper shipping way, hope i have luck.

Thanks for the pointer to the ebay auction, Rudi. That looks like a pretty good deal so far. Only one day to go so we'll see how high it gets.

Looks like that auction closed for US$30 plus $5 shipping. Still pretty rich for my blood.
