This won't necessarily be what i use, but i'm curious as to what everyone thinks/has used when importing rations.

I say "Camping Food" because it's an honest enough description and shouldn't cause anyone to scratch their head trying to figure out what "MRE" stands for. I'd definitely shy away from "Books" or "Firewood" because that's blatently untrue and could possibly even be construed as "fraud" by a customs inspector who's having a bad day.

I've got agree with kman. I use camping food. It is designed for field use after all. Over simplifying it, military maneuvers (i.e. bivouacs) are really camping trips. Before anyone says anything, yes, I am prior service; and, no, I didn't look at them as camping trips when I had to do them.

As far as I have understood (and that ain't much!) the problem with sending rations are the Safety Matches packed in almost every ration box. Although they are called 'safety' match, the postal services and air lines do not think these items are safe. (Every year dozens of planes crash because these highly dangerous pyrotechnical items start to self-ignite while stored in the cargo rooms. Or...?)

I write on my ration-containing packages "Outdoor Equipment" or "Camping Items". In some instances you must not lie, but neither tell the complete truth.
Only once a complete package had disappeared and was never recovered. I have good hope the f@cking postal officer suffered severe diarrhoea because the rations were very old.

I recently got one of the british 24 hour rat packs.
The seller marked it as " food packet" on the customs tag.
It was from 2002, I got three meals out of it. It was really good.

I got a British Ration pack in December. The sender marked the parcel as "camping supplies" and I got it in about a week no problems.

I vote "camping supplies" the word( food) really bothers custom's agents and international law. One of the first questions I get ask when returning from abroad is do you have anything to declare,food,fur,plants,cigar's,artifacts,ect...

Well, if it is CCC then you have to legally declare it as toxic waste...

my British packs ahve been stopped by Customs,
Labeled as "camping Consumeables"
said they wanted more detailed explanation on what they are,
then wanted Fda number from Company i bought them from

I voted for supplies.. Customs only checks stuff like food if you tell them its food, my brother lives in China and sends us wierd stuff all the time, but he always puts that its trinkets, or whatever else is in the box, never food.
