MRE Split Top Loaf White Bread on eBay

Post by kman » Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:40 pm

In case anyone is interested, there's a seller on eBay (it's not me) who's selling cases of 48 MRE Split Top Loaf White Bread. I just picked up a case from the seller and it arrived today. I haven't tried this stuff before but as you can tell from the pictures below, it looks more like "real" bread than MRE Wheat Snack Bread. The taste, however...it still tastes like the older Wheat Snack Bread - not so bad but it definitely goes better with peanut butter, jelly, pork ribs, or beef/chicken patties.

Anyway, here's the current auction - it's going for $15.95 Buy-it-Now plus reasonable shipping ($9 to me):

Judging from the pictures in his auction, it looks like he has a lot of this stuff.

Here's what mine looked like:

In your opinion, is the price you paid worth it for the condition of the bread? Obviously, if the bread were brand new this price is a steal. Would you say that the bread, in its current condition, is worth the "Buy it now" price"

Thanks!

I thought it was worth it. I'm usually a cheapskate when it comes to buying MRE things from eBay so $16 seemed like a pretty good deal. Of course, once you add in shipping and diving by 48, you come out to around $0.50 per piece of bread. That might seem a little high for "old" bread but the taste really isn't too bad - I mean, it's edible.

Have you ever had a Canadian IMP bread?

Are they similar?!

To me, $0.50 per bread isn´t too expansive - not for an "ration thing" :D

My first thought was:"Great, Brötchen"

Brötchen (crisp roll) are very common over here:

Continental breakfast is based on Brötchen, or cut it lengthwise and put a Bratwurst in:

I have had the IMP bread. I'd say the MRE bread and the IMP bread are similar in size and texture but the IMP bread (even the 1996 IMP bread pictured below) had better taste:

Thanks for the info!

FYI, he seems to have removed the "Buy it Now" option, so I will have to see how high the bidding goes.

He seems to have a lot of those cases. You could always send him a message asking him to put up another one that you'd do a buy-it-now for.

I recently bought a case of 48 too.
I actually like the taste!
Mine are all from 2006.........6055 etc and they taste pretty fresh!
Problem is with shipping they cost me about .75 each.
But, I wanted some real bread in my stash and the split top loaf white bread makes a good addition to the wheat snack breads and crackers that I have stored.
