FRH Mailing Requirements, USPS

I received a request for the FRH's with that request originating from Canada. To insure proper handling of these items I inquired with the USPS Mailing Requirements Department via phone and e-mail to insure the safe handling of these items. Since I knew these items were forbidden from air transport outside their MRE packaging, I indicated that as such in my e-mail.

Here is there reply:

Dear J***:

According to your information that the package cannot be shipped by air transport. However, USPS does not provide surface transportation to Canada. In this case, the package cannot be shipped by USPS.

One of the managerial reps had a concern that if the mailer got wet the item could explode. I was a little leary about that response but after reviewing the MSDS from the manufactures website I would say his concern was valid. So, I will not test it by leaving an open package in the rain to see if it activates sealed.

Material Safety Data Sheet can be found here:

UPS also had strict requirements for these items which made it impractical.

Unfortunately, USPS is probably the cheapest way to ship it. FedEx Ground and UPS are other alternatives.

Kman is right USPS is the cheapest way to go, UPS and FEDEX are a bit better but cost more and hide a bunch of taxes and surcharges in the final prices you don't see or hear about. I did some research on shipping one time by far USPS is a cheaper more reliable method even to Canada.

Just so everybody knows next time,

After 9-11 the USPS has taken considerable care in the way its handling its mail. After the Anthrax scare even more restrictions were implemented.

Your at your own risk if you think your going to send FRH's to Canada.

I'll give you the location where you can come and pick them up.

SaTrinxa, I think what he's saying is that FRHs are a little dangerous to ship via air (they're prohibited, actually), so shipping to the UK would probably be an issue unless they could go by boat somehow.
