there is not realy a good way to say if the mre have the strawberry FD inside, i have just searched/watched 100s of reviews to see if theres a menu/date/packer or so that stand out :D

I've got a few 80s MRES with "FD Fruit" listed in them. Would it specifically call out Strawberries, are they all just random freeze dried fruit, or that something completely different?
I don't think so, maybe. As I recall they were in a certain "run" or lot or date of issue. The DSPC or whomever was in charge of issuing the rations had to utilize the "first in first out" kind of inventory control. Seems like there was a big slug of them in the meals for a while, and then that was the end of that. I bet they cost more (than peaches, pears, fruit mix) too, which was probably part of it. Some bean counter decided that yes, somethings are too good for our boys.

So i opened one of my brown bags from 82 to check if i could find some strawberries to send you, and i did find strawberries. Now the wierd thing is that they had gone soft so i decided to just open it to take a look, and it didnt look bad at all. It still had the seal and packaging was still fine. So well i thought why not try a bite and they tasted completely normal, no sour after taste and no wierd feelings in my mouth. Im not dead yet anyway.
Any clue as to what might have happened? Because i dont think it should be edible after it's gone soft

It also had a pineapple nut cake thats fine to eat, so im unsure if this has been stored greatly or badly.
The nut cake is ok i guess, i like the modern cakes more.
Im not a fan of nuts though so that might be why.

I mean it was wierd to eat as the strawberries had the consitancy of gum or really sticky caramels, since it had gone soft.
Im slowly eating it to be carefull but i think it's completely safe even if it's soft, tastes like cheap strawberries:)
So i can now say i have eaten cake and strawberries from 82, thats gonna be fun to say at parties haha.
I dont think i will finish it as it's a little spooky.

Here is a picture before consumption.

And here is proof that i did eat it.

strange that it had gone soft but stil kind of edible?
seen that most frezzedryed fruit in the 80s mres have gone soft, must be packing problems back then that made they go soft...

havent tryed a pinapple nut cake yet, cant wait to try it out since the orange cake i had was just fine so there must be hope for a pinapple to :D

The pineapple one tasted great and i dont even like pineapple haha. If i open another one and find strawberries i will gladly send them to you:)
It's kinda wierd because according to the menu list i should have gotten a Menu 9 Chicken ala king menu, but i got something called cooked beef instead and it says number 9 on it? Is that normal?
