MRE Stash in a Cave: Got a Spare $35,000?

I thought you folks might appreciate this interesting listing I just found.
I was perusing through some online listings and I happened to stumble upon this treasure trove.
Source: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MRE-STAR-512-C ... .l4275.c10
Note the epic description:
"CAN KEEP STORED AT CAVE OR PICK UP AT ARIZONA LOCATION. ELEVATOR TO CAVE"
Honestly, the moment I learned there was an
"elevator to cave" I was instantly sold.
However, at the price of $35,000 for MRE + Shipping that would leave these at a price of ~$5.69 per meal
which actually isn't too bad. Presently, MRE Star for a case of 12 go for about ~$9.16 per meal (retail price, not bulk/wholesale price). At two meals a day, these 6,144 meals could last an average person about 8.5 years (if you at them every day and if the constipation didn't kill you first).
Who's ready to invest?

If you zoom in on those labels, I think I'm seeing "2011" as the production date. So these things might still be ok to eat at 9 years old...but I'd say they're at the peak of their usefulness.
I think $20 per case is a more reasonable price.

Can you ever buy MRE's for $20 a case?

Ahh yes. I see that as well. Looks like Februrary 2011 production date. I didn't realize $20 cases existed. That would be quite a steal.

Oh yes, you can find $20 cases every so often. Back a few years ago when Sopakco Low Sodium MREs were flooding the market, it wasn't uncommon to find someone on Craigslist selling them for $20/case. That was a really good deal.
But these MREs even for $20, would be stretching it - since they're already 9 years old, you *might* get a couple more years of use out of them if you're lucky...beyond that, you're really taking your chances with your survival. I mean, yeah, a 9 year old MRE is better than no MRE...but please buy something more recent if you need it for emergencies.

Wish I could find them for that money, just to go through and sample

. Yeah, wouldn't use the old ones for any sort of emergency. Reckon this one was a prepped stash?

9 year old cases of MRE Star meals for $69 each? Old enough to be way past prime, too recent to be collectable. You can do better for $69 (I'm including shipping).
My God, think of how much constipation 512 cases could produce.

Really? What's your source? Hook me up!!
The cheapest cases I'm seeing around $90 including shipping.
Or is it a matter of searching around and getting lucky?

$69 for old rations? I buy current rations in my town by the case for less than $69. Unfortunately they are US mfg and I hate US rations.
I just did an eBay search. First hit was a current (or is it 2009?) MRE Star case for $62 shipped.
